Differences between Chron’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis

ESR Stat Plus and the new and improved ESR Stat 6 are testing instruments designed by HemaTechnologies, and their objective is to reveal the erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Doctors can use ESR Stat Plus and ESR Stat 6 to show presence of inflammation in the body and detect whether or not the patient suffers from an inflammatory disease such as inflammatory bowel disease.

Inflammatory bowel disease causes chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. The term can be used for two different diseases, Chron’s and ulcerative colitis. The symptoms of the two diseases can be similar as patients that suffer from them may experience diarrhea, rectal bleeding, or abdominal pain.

The difference between them is that Chron’s disease affects a person’s gastrointestinal tract, damages small portions of the small intestine, and can occur anywhere from the mouth to the anus, while ulcerative colitis mostly affects and damages the rectum and colon. Another key difference between the two inflammatory bowel diseases is that ulcerative colitis results in permanent inflammations along the colon, while patients with Chron’s also have healthy parts that are not harmed by inflammation.
